Behind the Photo: Best of 2016 - Up!

This installment is yet again from Chamonix.  Would you be able to guess where one of my favorite places is?

My friends Bill and Gretchen have a photo hanging in their entryway from Chamonix.  It's a black and white photo of a cable car passing in the foreground with the glacial capped Mont Blanc in the background.  I have seen the photos over the years, never really thinking about where it was, until I looked again after my first trip to Chamonix.  I had to see this view for myself and get my own take on it.

I knew the photo was of the Le Brévent cable car, but I didn't know where the viewpoint was.  We decided the best option was to take the cable car up and hike down; simple, right?  The hike down first takes you the opposite direction of Mont Blanc - not exactly helping me out here just yet, but I knew the trail wound around back to the front.  We kept going and sure enough, endless views of Mont Blanc with the Le Brévent cable car passing by.

I think I ended up taking nearly 300 photos on this hike because I was so mesmerized by the view and just loved every passing of the cable car.  I also grabbed a few photos of Antonia and even took a shameless selfie (visit my "About Me" page to see that image), on the hike down.

We did have to cross some patches of snow (in July and August, mind you), there are some sections with a steeper pitch, but considering some of the other hikes in Chamonix, this one was easy.  Taking that into consideration and also the views, this is a must hike for anyone visiting the area.
